  My Witness

Vol. 11, No. 1, January, 2006

From the Editor
Sr. Jan Nattermann, S.N.C.

Sister Jan The mind needs to be in 'normal' gear. In the last issue I described 'normal' as calm, quiet and serene. Is that the usual condition of our minds? Probably not. Could this be the reason we so often feel that we lack wisdom and inspiration from the Holy Spirit. Maybe one's mind is so wild, busy, worried and harried that it misses the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit.

"And he said, 'Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord.' And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice" (1 Kings 19:11-12).

The Holy Spirit has gentle ways. So often he speaks to us in a still small voice. It is in 'normal' dear that allows us to hear those gentle promptings of the Spirit.
