The Desert Fathers have been an inspiration to others for centuries. I look to them, found in the pages of The Way of the Ascetics, to help put us on the right track, the narrow path at the beginning of 2010.

I thought a new year is a good time to "put off the old man and put on the new"; a time to arise from lethargy and take action. Why? To save your soul and win eternal life. There is no time like NOW.

Faith comes to us not by thinking about it, not even just praying for it, but through action. To let in warm sunshine we have to open the curtain. When almost out of gasoline we have to go to the station. If you want to reach your goal you can't just sit there, hoping and praying you reach it. It is never to late to ARISE, without delay. Don't wait until "tomorrow" or "later" because what if you don't have "a tomorrow" or "a later."

The instant you make your resolution, you will show by your action that you have taken leave of your old self and have now begun a new life. Arise without fear asking the Lord for his help. Be resolute in your purpose and don't look back.   HAPPY   NEW   YEAR!
