Vol. 16, No. 2, April, 2011

From the Editor
Sr. Jan Nattermann, S.N.C.

Sister Jan As we continue our journey through the seven Capital sins in this newsletter issue, we will take a look at GLUTTONY--the "G" in PALE GAS.

Gluttony is the act of eating or drinking to excess. It is a very easy sin to fall into because wanting more often persists even after we have eaten or drunk enough. It is over-consumption of food or drink which can lead to obesity or to alcoholism.

To fight against gluttony, we need to realize that the pleasures connected to eating and drinking are not ends in themselves but the means to an end (to nourish and strengthen our bodies). We must strive for moderation in all our actions. Moderation can be a form of penance or mortification, which can contribute to a greater strength of will resulting in greater vitality and better health. "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Cor. 10:31).
