Abroad

Sr. Angeline and Sr. Jan left for Poland on August 13, 1998 and arrived in Warsaw on August 14, at 8:00 a.m. Peter Slojkowski, President of the Association of the New Covenant in Poland, and Jadwiga Starchurska, one of their translators, met them at the airport with flowers. They were taken to the Ursuline Convent where they stayed while they were in Warsaw. They unloaded their suitcases, enjoyed breakfast, and then dashed off with Jadwiga to a 11:00 a.m. meet with Fr. Adam Schulz, S.J., Director of the Council of Catholic Movements in Poland. On August 16, the Sisters left with Peter by train for Gdynia where the various meetings and training were to take place. Upon their arrival, the Sisters were taken to the Sisters of Nazareth where they lived during their stay in Gdynia.

Meetings.

Various meetings took place while the Sisters were in Poland but the highlight was their meeting with Archbishop Tadeusz Goclowski to present him with the Statutes of the Association of the Community of the New Covenant. Present at this meeting as well were Fr. Wojciech, Peter Slojkowski, Zdzislaw Sobczyk, Roman Radtke, and Jadwiga Starchurska who did all of the translating.

Much time was given over to a discussion of the Statutes of the Association of the Community of the New Covenant and to a discussion of Catholic Action in Poland which is seen as an evangelizing action for Poland by Pope John Paul II.

Annual Follow-Up Leadership Formation Training.

The Annual Follow-Up Leadership Formation Training began on August 21 and ended on August 25. Forty-seven coordinators and pastoral leaders of the ACTS II Process attended this formation training. A fun night of about two and one half hours took place on the evening of the 22nd which was led by ja lady from the Light/Life Movement. It was an exceptional evening; everyone laughed a lot and enjoying themselves immensely. Another fun night was had on the evening of Sr. Angeline's birthday.

ACTS II Board of Directors Meeting.

The ACTS II Board of Directors Meeting began on August 27 and ended August 30. This meeting is concerned with evaluating the well-being of the ACTS II Process in Gdynia, Gdansk and Suwalki and developing strategies of how to bring the ACTS II Process into parishes. Reports on every element of the ACTS II Process are submitted by each of the Directors of the ACTS II Process, evaluated by everyone present and improvements suggested.

At the end of the Board of Directors Meeting, twenty new members were received into the Association.

Peter and Kinga Groth took Sr. Angeline and Sr. Jan for a short sightseeing trip to see the old town of Gdansk and then to Sopot, a beautiful place by the Baltic Sea. Though, they got caught in a downpour on the pier and got soaked, it was a lovely relaxing time together. At 3:15 p.m., they returned to the Gdynia and the Sisters left for Warsaw at 4:00 p.m. on August 31.

Conclusion.

September 1 was spent relaxing and doing some walking. On September 2, Sister Angeline did a lot of work with translations with Jadwiga. And on September 3, Sr. Angeline and Sr. Jan did some sightseeing of the old town of Warsaw and ended the day having pizza with Peter for supper.
