  My Witness

Vol. 10, No. 3, July, 2005

From the Editor
Sr. Jan Nattermann, S.N.C.

Sister Jan "Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled. I remember the days of old, I meditate on all that thou has done; I muse on what thy hands have wrought" (Psalm 143:4-5).

David, the psalmist, often talked about meditating on the marvelous deeds of the Lord. He thought about God's faithfulness, steadfast love and mercy. He thanked God for who he was for David: his deliverer, his shield, his refuge. "Happy the people whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 144:15b)!

When David was feeling discouraged, depressed, we see from Psalm 143:4-5 that he responded by choosing to remember the good days of old. He pondered the works of God's hands rather than dwelling on the problem. He thought on something good and it helped him overcome discouragement and to be victorious.

Yes, the power of the Holy Spirit brings victory to our lives but he needs our cooperation by bringing our thinking in line with God's thinking--his word. Often times our thinking has to be renewed to God's way of thinking.

What do you mostly think about? Philippians 4:8 tells us what to think on: "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

Our thoughts affect our attitudes and moods, so think on good things, things that will build you up as well as others!
