  My Witness

Vol. 4, No. 3, July, 1999

From the Editor
Sr. Jan Nattermann, S.N.C.

Sister Jan Have you ever watched dancing on ice? Some couples can skate together so well, or dance for that matter that they become one fluid, graceful movement. They know the music, watch and listen to one another, practice the routine day in and day out so that they are not performing a stiff ritual but become natural beauty at its peak.

An evangelizer using the Word of God can become either stiff ritual or supernatural beauty. The evangelizer, to be really effective--a winner for the kingdom of God--has to be prayed up, empowered by the Holy Spirit and so comfortable with the word of God, that he/she can move with the one being evangelized, yet leading in the direction he/she needs to be going. Yes, the evangelizer goes with a well laid and practiced plan, but is ready to change gears according to the needs of the one being evangelized. The evangelizer can only shift gears in using the word of God if he/she knows it well.

The bottom line is: It is the Good News that will change lives, not simply good advice. That is because changed lives are the turf of God, not man. One task of evangelizers is to be the best at what one does, evangelizing with the confidence and competence that comes from knowing the Lord and His word.
